The Old Grey Whistle NEST
(NEST)
Band Members:
Tim Jones - Guitar and Vocals
Tim's musical journey began at school in Wales, where he discovered that the only way to wimp out of rugby while still retaining a semblance of street credibility was to sing and play guitar - there's lovely! It's been downhill ever since but Tim is still rightly proud, as part of Gloria Monday in the 1970s, to have been paid off at half time by the Mountain Ash Working Men's Club - well, well! Tim recently entered the male menopause - again - and is suffering from 'GAS' Gear Acquisition Syndrome. Please make donations payable to the Guitar Amp and Keyboard Centre in Brighton.
Will Sandbrook - Guitar
Will started out musical life as a 16-year-old guitarist for Ska sensations The Echoes on the South Coast. Only at age 18 did he discover it was also possible to play chords on the beat, and this confused him so much he took a ten-year hiatus from all live performance. His return – as the bassist in ‘Old Grey Whistle NEST’ forerunner PADAMONIUM 2 years ago – marked the highlight of Will’s musical life to date in the form of their gothic-opera reworking of Dire Straits classic Money for Nothing. That marked both the beginning and the end of his attempts to influence the band’s musical direction although he maintains that it was simply ‘light years ahead of what those pesky judges could handle’.
Emma Winfield - Vocals
Putting the Emma into dilemma, Emma is a closet who rocker who makes her debut at pension rocks III. Lured by the temptation of guitar riffs, banging drums and microphones Emma has ditched her choral robes and Julie Andrews costumes to rock up a storm with her NEST buddies in The Old Grey Whistle NEST.
Andy 'Slap Happy' Sheen – Bass Guitar
Being comically tall and the last of his friends to buy an instrument, Andy has been lumbered with bass since age 13. He cut his teeth learning to play thrash metal, but after orthodontic treatment, found playing with his fingers also works. He has played in literally several projects and describes his style as 'cod-funk bebop-space-metal'. He was recruited to The Old Grey Whistle NEST because he threatened to hold his breath until someone let him join in.
Fareed 'Laser Beam Tazer Knuckles' Ebrahimi - Drums
Being a privileged enough drummer to play with the Dock-Hods, Fareed is now the new rocking heartbeat of The Old Grey Whistle NEST. Famously known for hitting a cymbal so hard that the impact travelled back through time and killed Sammy Davis Jr. To this day a heavy weight to bear on his shoulders, although still unproven within the court of law.
'Lively' Linda Kissi - Backing Vocals
Coming from a soulful/jazzy background as a teen, then more recently raising the roof of her church as a soprano, ‘Lively’ Linda has decided to try out the world of rock as a backing singer with The Old Grey Whistle NEST and is looking forward to rocking the stage.
