Standard Deviation

Standard Life Investments

Band profile

Standard Deviation has pulled together the collective experience and musical talent of five seasoned pension and investment professionals to deliver a truly foot stomping, beer-swilling rock ‘n’ roll experience.

Band Members:

From left to right... George Emmerson, Bruce Munro, Andy Dickson, John Hatfield and Seth Gardner.

George "Plectrum-picking" Emmerson – Guitar
George is an internationally undiscovered guitarist. George loves the real sound of acoustic over electric and is often found at gigs, parties, camp fires, threatening to join in and play some killer riffs and songs.

An investment professional for moe years than he cares to mention, he remains convinced that his moment of discovery and stardom must be just around the corner. In the meantime he will probably not deviate too much from the Standard that is expected.

Seth 'Stix' Gardner – Drums
Seth has undertaken a 25 year quest to achieve meaningful, challenging and life affirming drumming! His professional life revolves around providing media and personal development training and consultancy for pension and investment houses as well as the use of 'storytelling' via the mediums of film and photography, but also finds time to support charity Salem Scotland. His incredible energy translates through his drumming to bring every single foot in a venue to a stomp and jump within seconds!

Bruce Munro – Guitar and vocals
A guitarist and a singer, Bruce has been known to use more than three chords in the course of an evening. Bruce has been training extensively to use all six strings especially for Pensions Rocks! He’s currently a member of Bacchanal, a Fife-based blues band, and has played to such appreciative audiences as the Satan’s Slaves bikers and some nuns.

Andy "Fingers" Dickson – Keyboards
International musical man of mystery and seasoned keyboard player extraordinaire, Andy has given live performances in such far flung places as India, Tanzania, Peru, China, the US, New Zealand and the miners’ welfare club in Polmont. He’s guested many times in après-ski parties at leading French resorts, prompting comments that his rock career is going downhill rapidly. Currently a member of Our Man in Memphis, a Glasgow-based rock and blues band, he’s taking time out for this exciting Pensions Rocks! project.

Mississippi John Hatfield – Bass
Mississippi’s great grandma, the legendary Alabama Annie, taught his bass at the age of six. The fact she was a tone deaf, one-armed harmonica player explains much of Mississippi’s unique sound, His other main musical influence was a bottle of Jim Beam by the neck. Old-timers still recall seeing him sitting on his rocking chair outside his log cabin, coaxing mournful slide blues from a battered dobro while chucking empty bourbon bottles at the danged coyotes out in the yard. These memories are all the more remarkable as he was living in Govan, Scotland at the time.
